Emergency Assistance 

Community Action Opportunities and Pisgah Legal Services are collaborating on Project UPLIFT to provide emergency assistance to residents who have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 in Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, McDowell, Polk and Transylvania counties. The services prioritize families who are: facing eviction; previously homeless, disqualified for other federal/state assistance, in domestic violence situations, have certain health conditions and/or disabilities.

•What services are provided?
Emergency financial assistance payments can be used for past due rent, utilities, childcare, medications, transportation or other vital needs, for those who qualify.
•Who is eligible for services?
Families who have an income at/below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines and have been negatively impacted by COVID-19 are eligible for services.
•Do I have to submit other information in order to receive services?
Once a staff person follows-up, an applicant will have to submit documentation to support their income received for the last 30-days (a staff person will provide guidance for the exact dates in the review period). If determined qualified for services, the customer must provide documentation to support the financial assistance requested/approved (i.e. lease agreement, court order, utility bill, etc.)
•How much financial assistance can I receive?
The assistance amount is contingent on available funding, level of need and volume of applicants.
•Which health conditions are prioritized?
Pulmonary conditions, diabetes and heart disease are the priority health conditions.
