HR Manager

We are an anti-poverty agency looking for a seasoned, professional HR professional to be our HR Manager.  Along with a personnel analyst, this hands-on position supports the HR needs of 130 FTEs.

Our HR Manager ensures that we comply with relevant employment law is responsible for HR-related policies, programs and systems including but not limited to job analysis, pay and classification, recruitment, screening and selection, employee benefits and electronic and hardcopy HR records.  The HR Manager must also know and apply federal and state HR laws and regulations, be able to communicate clearly, exercise sound judgment, meet repeated deadlines, work on teams, facilitate small groups, demonstrate best-practice supervision and counsel others on lawful employment and behaviorally-based discipline practices. 

Requires a Master’s degree in HR Management, Public Administration or Business Administration with an emphasis in HR, or a related field and, at least, eight (8) years as an assistant or HR Manager/Director in a small public or medium-sized non-profit organization.  Five (5) years of supervisory experience and  SHRM-SCP also required.  An equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.  Prefer bi-lingual in Spanish. 

This position is exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime pay

Compensation:  $67,770 to $85,079 (DOQ) plus competitive benefits including 401(k)

Family Service Associate/ Interpreter

Available –Immediately
Community Action Opportunities is seeking a Family Service Associate/ Interpreter to recruit, enroll, and assist families of enrolled children to set and achieve individual and family development goals, and facilitate family engagement in their child’s development and school readiness activities. Work includes recruiting potentially income eligible families with pre-school aged children, assessing family strengths and challenges, guiding and documenting family goal setting, progress, and evaluating and reporting outcomes. The FSA/Interpreter is primarily responsible for a sub-set of work activities across all program areas for families whose primary language is Spanish.
Work also requires considerable discretion, judgement, initiative, accuracy and strong oral and written communication and teamwork skills. Work occurs under the general supervision of the Lead Family Service Associate, and is evaluated through observation, conferences, goal achievement and, significant Incidences that demonstrate job quality, quantity, timeliness and results. Work is formally reviewed, and future goals are set, during an annual performance appraisal.

Education and Experience

  • Graduation from a regionally or CHEA- accredited four year college or university with a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work or related field and, at least two years of experience working with low wealth families, and have pre-school children. An equivalent combination of education and experience can be considered.

Requirements

  • The Family Service Associate/Interpreter must be fluent in both Spanish and English.
  • A valid N.C. Driver’s License.
  • Ability to pass, a physical examination, TB test, criminal background check, and drug screen.
  • Eligible to obtain the DCDEE Qualification letter.

Salary:

$15.39/hr. - $21.55/hr.

Needed Immediately – Full-time – Energy Service Technician I

Community Action Opportunities needs a skilled crew member to perform responsible residential energy-efficiency and health and safety work on homes of people who live on low income. 

This position is funded by grants, requires a Technician with a working knowledge of current residential building science principles and techniques and understanding of energy-efficiency-related work.  The work uses written NC Installation Standards, job-specific work orders, oral instruction and diagnostic information to guide energy-efficiency & health & safety work.  Work also includes making minor repairs using materials such as drywall, lumber and glass, making mathematical computations and maintaining up-to-date and accurate written records.  Work requires exposure to a variety of potential hazards associated with building construction, including extreme weather conditions and temperatures for prolonged periods, mold, pests, loud noises, chemicals, fumes, lead, dusts and oils; proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical hand-held and bench-mounted equipment and electrical current.    

The EST I must also be able to

  • Organize & execute work to meet production schedules,
  • Communicate clearly and accurately with co-workers and customers.
  • Work on teams or alone &
  • Use a variety of electronic & internet-supported devices.

Special Requirements
Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver License and pass pre-employment pulmonary function and respirator fit tests.

Education and Experience
High school graduate or GED required.  Some college, with courses in basic carpentry, industrial work or environmental science preferred, or two years of work experience in other building trades such as plumber, electrician, HVAC Specialist or related.

BPI or related certification and bi-lingual in English/Spanish preferred.

Software and Help-Desk Technician (working title)

We have an immediate opening for an experienced individual to provide user/technical support for agency-owned web database applications that support a statewide network of anti-poverty organizations. This customer-focused support requires the ability to analyze and fulfill user needs, excellent communication skills and attention to detail. The position also updates user manuals and websites, identifies coding bugs and may help to test code. May also participate in requirements elicitation/analysis. Requires 1-2 years of experience with web technologies, help desk support and knowledge of Linux/Unix. General understanding of non-profit and/or anti-poverty programs helpful.

Must pass pre-employment drug and background checks. PT 10 to 25 hrs/wk

Compensation: $23.14 to $25.00/hr DOQ

Head Start Assistant Teacher Substitute

Seeking energetic individual with a desire to work as an early childhood professional in our high quality program. Experience working with pre-school children; performs a variety of support tasks in the teaching and classroom environment in Head Start preschool education centers or classrooms in local school systems; may also work with children with needs, and may be assigned to any classroom as needed to work one-on-one to support routine classroom activities; helps with individual and group teaching activities of preschool age children in a classroom; sets up learning centers, and arrange daily activities. NC Early Childhood Credentials preferred.  Must understand the developmental stages and appropriate teaching techniques for pre-school children. Bi-lingual in Spanish-English a plus.  A valid N.
